Friends with Benefits: Movie Trailer and Review
when i first saw the official trailer, i was like "i'm gonna watch this". it's not because i'm interested in the movie plot, but because emma stone's got a cameo role in it. haha. and then i watched No Strings attached, and then i got a little bit disappointed and so i decided to watch this film finally because I want another point of storytelling around the same concept of friends with benefits. and i didn't regret spending two hours sitting down for this movie.
i've written about this movie at my other blog. and here is my movie review.
I've been wishing for this movie for months now. (hey, the time difference between no strings attached and this film is around 6-7 months in the Philippines) I really don't know why is it taking them forever to show this film at the Philippine Cinemas. and because i'm not patient enough, i bought the pirated DVD copy of this film. haha. and it's a really good buy, because they already sell the DVD copy. (meaning the original copy is the original DVD of the movie itself)
PLOT:
While trying to avoid the clichés of Hollywood romantic comedies, Dylan and Jamie soon discover however that adding the act of sex to their friendship does lead to complications.
this is the exact description of IMDb for the film. so short, right. well, i will not spoil more stuffs for you, especially when you really want to watch it at the cinema.
what i like about the film.
1. the story. yeah, i know it's really common. just this summer, they released No Strings Attached, which is basically the same story, but on a dramatic note. what i love about the film is the simplicity of the storytelling. it was fast-paced but with emphasis on certain scenes that might pinch your heart a bit. eg. the first time the couple made love, dylan accompanying his dad at the restaurant and doing exactly what his dad's doing, their strong family ties.
2. its not a trying hard romantic-comedy film. it is the superior casual sex comedy.
3. you know that friends with benefits mean friends in a purely sexual relationship, so the film features 20% bed scenes. the good thing is, i didn't feel awkward while watching them doing the thing. in fact, i was laughing really hard, because they presented them in funny ways. well, except for the part where they made love. it was really romantic.
4. the characters. they have a good casting. JT has really improved his acting skills. Kunis is very natural, i really love her in this film. They have cute chemistry, just enough to present their love story.
they also have nolan gould, my favorite Modern Family child actor. he's really adorable, especially here where he plays a wannabe magician.
they also have patricia clarkson who plays the mom of emma stone in Easy A (which by the way is one of my favorites). this picture reminds me of another scene in Easy A where the mom also comforts the daughter.
5. awesome soundtrack. i love this songs. closing time is one of my favorite songs in HS, and it was featured here. they also played Boys don't cry in one of the film sequence. i love it.
there. with that, this film is now included in my list of favorite romantic comedy films. :)
